RapidIdentity: Renaming our Products

Today, I’m writing with a big announcement. When we introduced our new brand identity several months ago – a new logo, new website, and new marketing materials – we were changing our look to better represent who we are today, and who we’ll be tomorrow – a provider of world-class identity management solutions.

We’re continuing that effort by introducing several naming changes that better represent our product, align our terminology with the larger Identity and Access Management industry, and clarify functions within our product.

Product Name Changes

This month (February 2015) we will be releasing our next product version. The most significant change is the introduction of a new name that encompasses our entire identity management solution: RapidIdentity.

We chose RapidIdentity as its name because it represents one of the core drivers behind the product’s design and development: an identity management solution that is fast to design, configure, and deploy.

The upcoming product release later this month is known as RapidIdentity 3.2.

Component Name Changes

In addition, we have changed the names of the various components that comprise RapidIdentity to be shorter, clearer, and easier to understand.

  • Access Request Management System (ARMS) is now named RapidPortal.
  • Data Synchronization System (DSS) is now named RapidConnect.
  • Federated Identity Management System (FIMS) is now named RapidFederation.
  • Folder Management System (FMS) is now named RapidFolders.

Module Name Changes

Within RapidPortal we have renamed several of our modules in order to clarify their purpose.

  • Application Access Module is now named Applications Module.
  • Account Management Module is now named Profiles Module.
  • File Access Module is now named Files Module.
  • Group Management Module is now named Roles Module.
  • Sponsorship, Workflow, Dashboard and Reporting Modules will remain the same.

Label Changes

Finally, throughout RapidPortal we have also modified several labels to better align ourselves with the common terminology used within the IAM industry.

  • Re-attest is now Certify.
  • Re-attestations is now Certifications.
  • Group is now Role.
  • Resource is now Entitlement.
  • [Resource] Role is now Entitlement Set.

We’re excited about what these changes mean for us – and while we know they might be confusing at first, we expect they will make everything easier in the long run.

As always, Identity Automation strives to provide the absolute highest levels of customer service and will continue to communicate with all of our customers during this transition in an effort to minimize confusion related to these changes.
